FLOORING INSTALLATION
DC, MD & VA

New floors are one of the highest-ROI upgrades you can make to any DMV home. 5 Star Pros installs hardwood, luxury vinyl plank, tile, and laminate — with meticulous subfloor prep that makes the difference between a floor that lasts and one that doesn't.

FLOORING INSTALLATION
DONE RIGHT IN THE DMV

Walk into any home in Silver Spring, Bethesda, or Arlington and you'll likely find one of two things under the carpet: beautiful hardwood that just needs a refresh, or a subfloor that's been covered up with layer after layer of dated linoleum and worn vinyl. DMV homes — many built between the 1950s and 1980s — were not designed with modern flooring products in mind. That's why professional installation matters. The wrong install over a poorly prepped subfloor leads to squeaks, buckling, and gaps within months.

At 5 Star Pros, we start every flooring project with a thorough subfloor assessment. We check for level, look for soft spots or water damage, address any squeaks before they're buried under new material, and ensure the surface is clean, dry, and ready for the specific product being installed. Whether we're floating a click-lock LVP over concrete in a basement or face-nailing solid oak to a wood subfloor in a classic Colonial, the prep is what earns the result.

We carry and install all major flooring types — including hardwood, engineered hardwood, luxury vinyl plank, laminate, porcelain tile, and natural stone tile. Every job includes demo and disposal of the old floor, installation of new transitions and baseboards, and a final walk to make sure every seam, edge, and corner meets our standard. No subcontracting, no surprise charges, and a workmanship warranty on every installation we complete.

How It Works

OUR PROCESS

01
Measure & Quote

We visit your home, measure every room, assess the subfloor condition, and walk you through material options at every price point. Your quote is itemized and free.

02
Subfloor Prep

We demo the old floor completely — carpet, tack strips, staples, old vinyl — then flatten, secure, and treat the subfloor so the new product has a stable foundation.

03
Installation

Flooring goes in row by row with proper expansion gaps, staggered seams, and manufacturer specs followed to protect your warranty. Tile jobs cure fully before grouting.

04
Trim & Transitions

We install new baseboards or shoe molding, cut and fit all transition strips between rooms, and haul away every scrap of debris before the final walkthrough.

Common Questions

FLOORING INSTALLATION FAQ

What is the best flooring for a basement?+
Luxury vinyl plank (LVP) is the top choice for basements in the DMV. It handles moisture, humidity fluctuations, and concrete subfloors exceptionally well. It's also warm underfoot, durable, and available in realistic wood and stone looks. Tile is another moisture-resistant option. We typically steer clients away from solid hardwood in below-grade spaces due to moisture risk.
How long does flooring installation take?+
A single room of LVP or laminate can be installed in one day. Multi-room projects typically take 2–3 days. Hardwood or tile jobs that require extensive subfloor prep, mortar bed setting, or grout curing can run 3–5 days. We'll give you a precise schedule during your free quote so you can plan accordingly.
Do you remove old flooring?+
Yes. We handle the full demo — pulling up old carpet, removing staples and tack strips, peeling up old vinyl or laminate, and preparing the subfloor. Removal and disposal are included in our quotes so there are no surprise add-ons when we arrive on installation day.
What is the difference between LVP and hardwood?+
Hardwood is real wood — it has an authentic look and feel, can be sanded and refinished multiple times, and adds significant resale value. LVP (luxury vinyl plank) is a synthetic product that realistically mimics wood, costs less, installs faster, and handles moisture far better. For kitchens, bathrooms, basements, and high-traffic areas, LVP is often the smarter choice. For formal living areas where aesthetics and long-term resale value are the priority, hardwood wins.
