WALLPAPER INSTALLATION
& REMOVAL, DC MD VA
Accent walls are one of the hottest design trends in the DMV right now — and old wallpaper removal is one of the most underestimated jobs in home improvement. 5 Star Pros handles both with precision: clean installation, perfect pattern matching, and wall repair that makes the finished product look flawless.
WALLPAPER INSTALLATION &
REMOVAL IN THE DMV
Wallpaper is back — and in a serious way. Across Washington DC, Bethesda, and Arlington, homeowners are commissioning bold botanical prints, textured grasscloth, and geometric patterns to transform dining rooms, home offices, and primary bedrooms into spaces that feel intentional and designed. The accent wall has evolved from a painted feature wall into a full statement covered in high-end wallcovering, and getting it right requires patience, technical skill, and a genuine eye for alignment.
The other side of the coin is removal. Older DMV homes — colonials, cape cods, and split-levels built in the 1960s through 1980s — often have multiple layers of old wallpaper from previous decades. Removing it is a slow, careful process: score, soak, strip, and then address the wall underneath. In many cases the drywall facing tears during removal, leaving a rough surface that needs skim-coating before anything new can go up. Skipping that repair step is what causes new wallpaper to bubble, peel, and fail within months.
5 Star Pros handles the complete process from start to finish — removal, wall repair, sizing, priming, hanging, trimming, and seam pressing. We work with all wallpaper types including traditional unpasted paper, pre-pasted, grasscloth, vinyl-coated, fabric-backed, and modern peel-and-stick removable products. If you already have your paper, we'll install it. If you're still choosing, we're happy to help you think through the options based on the room's light, traffic, and humidity levels.

OUR PROCESS
We evaluate the existing wall condition, identify any old wallpaper layers, check for moisture, and determine the prep scope before providing your itemized quote.
Old wallpaper is stripped, adhesive is cleaned off, and damaged wall surfaces are skim-coated, sanded smooth, and treated so the new paper bonds properly and lasts.
A sizing coat is applied to condition the wall, regulate paste absorption, and allow future removal without damaging the drywall. Then a wallpaper-specific primer goes on top.
Strips are hung plumb, patterns are matched precisely at every seam, and edges are trimmed cleanly at ceilings, baseboards, and outlets. Every seam is pressed flat and inspected.
