COUNTERTOP INSTALLATION
DC, MD & VA

New countertops transform a kitchen or bathroom faster than almost any other upgrade. 5 Star Pros installs quartz, natural stone, laminate, and butcher block throughout DC, Maryland, and Virginia — with precise measuring, clean cuts, and proper sealing.

PROFESSIONAL COUNTERTOP INSTALLATION
IN THE DMV AREA

Countertops are the workhorse of any kitchen, and they set the visual tone for the entire space. In the DMV market, quartz has become the dominant material — it's non-porous, doesn't need annual sealing, and comes in an enormous range of colors and patterns that mimic natural marble without the maintenance. Behind quartz, we're installing a lot of butcher block in transitional and farmhouse kitchens, granite for customers who want natural stone movement, and premium laminate in budget-conscious flips and rental renovations where the look-to-cost ratio matters.

Good countertop installation starts with precise measuring. Walls in older DMV homes — rowhouses, colonials, post-war ramblers — are rarely perfectly square, and cabinets settle over time. A template must capture every out-of-square corner, every bump, every variation in cabinet height. For stone and quartz, we create a physical template or digital measurement file that goes to the fabricator before a single slab is cut. For laminate and butcher block, we cut on-site. Either way, the fit has to be tight before anything is secured in place.

Sink cutouts require a precise hole saw or jigsaw technique so the faucet and sink drop in cleanly with no gaps. Undermount sinks are bonded and clipped from below. Seams between slabs are minimized in placement and filled with color-matched adhesive for an invisible joint. After installation, natural stone is sealed with a penetrating sealer and quartz edges are inspected for chips or voids. We serve all of DC, Maryland, and Northern Virginia and offer free quotes with no pressure and no obligation.

How It Works

OUR PROCESS

01
Measure & Template

We measure every cabinet run precisely, noting out-of-square walls and any height variations. For stone and quartz, we create a detailed template that goes to the fabricator before any material is cut. Precision here prevents gaps, bad seams, and wasted material.

02
Remove Old Countertop

The existing countertop is disconnected from plumbing, unclipped, and removed carefully. We inspect the cabinet tops for level and any structural issues before the new surface goes down. Any shimming or leveling needed is done at this stage.

03
Install & Secure

The countertop is set, checked for fit, and secured to the cabinets. Sink cutouts are finished cleanly and the sink is bonded or clipped in place. Seams between slabs are aligned and filled with color-matched adhesive for a nearly invisible joint.

04
Seal & Inspect

All wall-to-countertop transitions are caulked neatly. Natural stone is sealed with a penetrating sealer; butcher block gets a food-safe oil finish; quartz just needs a final clean. Plumbing is reconnected and tested. We walk through every detail before we pack up.

Common Questions

COUNTERTOP INSTALLATION FAQ

Do you supply the countertop or do I?+
Both options work. We can install countertops you've already purchased, or we can help you source slabs and prefabricated countertops through our supplier network. For natural stone and quartz, we typically recommend templating the space precisely before ordering to avoid costly material waste. We walk you through both paths during your free quote and help you make the most cost-effective decision for your project.
How long does countertop installation take?+
Laminate and butcher block countertops are typically installed in a single day since we cut on-site. Quartz and natural stone require a template visit first, then the slab is cut and finished at the fabricator (usually 3–7 business days), then installed in 4–6 hours. We coordinate the full timeline and let you know exactly how long the kitchen will be out of service so you can plan accordingly.
Can you do a waterfall edge?+
Yes. Waterfall edges — where the countertop material wraps vertically down the side of an island or peninsula — are one of the most popular design requests we get in DMV kitchens right now. They require precise mitered cuts and careful seaming to match the pattern continuously, and they look best in quartz or stone with a consistent veining pattern. We quote waterfall edges as part of the countertop job upfront — no surprises.
What about bathroom vanity countertops?+
Bathroom vanity countertops are one of our most popular standalone jobs. We remove the old vanity top, check that the cabinet box is level and structurally sound, and install the new countertop with the sink cutout finished cleanly. Quartz, marble, cultured marble, and solid surface materials are all available. We can also combine this with cabinet painting and a new backsplash tile installation in a single visit for a complete bathroom refresh.
